Frequently asked questions
Do you carry out knotweed removal yourselves?
No. Knotweed Removal UK is an introduction service. With your consent, we pass your enquiry to up to three independent specialists who cover your area. Any survey, treatment or removal is carried out by the specialist you choose, on terms agreed directly with them.
Is there a charge for using the service?
No. Making an enquiry costs nothing, and you are under no obligation to instruct any of the specialists. Specialists pay us a fee for each introduction.
Which specialists do you work with?
Independent knotweed companies that are members of the Property Care Association (PCA). We confirm each company's membership before passing it any enquiries.
Is it illegal to have Japanese knotweed on my property?
No. It is not an offence to have knotweed on your land, and there is no general duty to remove or report it. In England and Wales it is an offence to plant it or otherwise cause it to grow in the wild, and soil or plant material containing it is likely to be controlled waste that must go to an authorised site. The courts have also held that knotweed spreading onto a neighbour's land can be a private nuisance.
Do I have to tell buyers about knotweed?
In England and Wales, the Law Society's TA6 property information form includes questions about Japanese knotweed. The Law Society notes that buyers can rely on a seller's answers and may be able to claim compensation after completion if information is misleading. If you know or suspect knotweed is present, a specialist survey and management plan will help you answer accurately.
What happens after I send an enquiry?
We match your postcode to specialists who cover the area and pass them your details. They will contact you directly to discuss a survey or quotation, and you will receive a confirmation email from us.
